Holland Club Induction Ceremony Agenda//Timeline September 20, 2015



During this time period volunteers will arrange tables and seating for meeting at

American Legion Post 205, Rt. 17,  400 Eastern Ave. Augusta, Maine.


12:00 PM – 12:30 PM

Base Senior Vice CDR Starbird & COB Cyr will stand by at entrance to meet incoming VIP’S w/ COB taking VIP’s to their seats. Wives of any VIP’s and the inductees will have reserved seating in first row of tables on one side of main aisle in upstairs meeting room. This is to include any staff personnel accompanying senior officers. Attending press will be provided seats on opposite side of main aisle in front row, with COB having a seat reserved for himself in the same section.


12:30 PM

Call to Order (CDR Ferrell//Vice CDR Starbird)

Brief introduction and explanation of planned induction events

Introduction of VIP guests, State Representatives, and Base Officers at head table.


12:35 PM (CDR Ferrell)

Call group to stand followed by Pledge of Allegiance.


12:38 PM (Chaplain Schmidt)

Invocation by Base Chaplain Terry Schmidt.


12:40 PM (CDR Ferrell, COB Cyr)

COB Cyr called to Bell position for Lost Boat Ceremony.

12:45 PM

Introduction of Holland Club Members in attendance. (Ferrell/Starbird)


(Optional) Assemble all current Holland members to form Honor Guard for presentation in front right side of podium. (Ferrell)




Call inductee’s to stand (half turned) to one side of head

table facing membership and VIP table if possible. (Ferrell)


Brief biography of Holland Club Inductees. (Ferrell/Starbird).      



(1.) John E. Morris, CAPT(SS), Life Member USSVI & USS Maine Base, first qualified 1965 aboard USS Tunny (SS/SSG/LPSS-282). Resides in West Gardiner, Maine with wife Kay.  John currently serves as Maine's Commissioner of Public Safety.  John retired from the USN in 1990 after 30 years of service.


(2.) Paul Talbot, EM1(SS), Life member USSVI & USS Maine Base, first qualified 1964 aboard USS Clamagore (SS-343). Resides in Corinna, Maine with wife Gayle.  Paul served from 1961-1969.  Paul drives a school bus for the Newport School System.

(A.) Call Governor Paul LePage and Maine First Lady Anne LePage, to make presentations. (Congratulatory Letters)


(B.) Call Maine Senator Collins Representative, Chuck Mahaleris, to make presentations.  (Congratulatory Letters)


(C.) Call Maine Congressman Chellie Pingree (or her representative), to make presentation. (Congratulatory Letters)


(D.) Call Maine State Legislature Representative, Tim Marks (D) Pittston, to make presentation. (Legislative Sentiments)


(E.) Call Eastern District 1 Commander Peter Koester, to make presentation. (USSVI Holland Certificate, Membership Card & Patch)


(F.) Any other VIP’s or Holland Club members to be called to speak. (5 minute window)


1:15 PM -1:55 PM

(G.) Call for guest speaker Rear Admiral Jim D.Cossey

(USN Retired), to speak (40 Minutes). Subject "Making a Difference". (Rear Admiral Jim D. Cossey)

End program, serve ala carte lunch to guests (VIP’s, Holland Club and Guests first in line)(Heidi Ellring & Maine Base Wives). NOTE: Anyone planning on bringing a dish for the potluck should contact Heidi or me via email/phone to let us know what you plan to bring.
